

POSITION OVERVIEW:
A Senior Structured Cabling Technician leads the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic, copper, and coaxial cables, in commercial, data center, or utility environments. This role involves supervising teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ANSI/TIA-568, ISO/IEC 11801, BICSI), and coordinating projects to meet quality, safety, and budget requirements. Professionals in this position act as on-site leads, fostering team productivity while building client relationships.
About the Role
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Lead and supervise cabling installation teams (internal or subcontractors), provide training, guidance, and performance feedback; conduct weekly meetings and escalate issues to project managers as needed.
· Plan, coordinate, and execute cabling projects, including site surveys, cable pulling, termination, splicing, testing, and certification using tools like fusion splicers and cable testers.
· Perform job site inspections to verify work meets safety standards, customer expectations, and project specifications; manage material delivery, equipment, and inventory.
· Troubleshoot and diagnose complex cabling issues in network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance for data centers, low-voltage systems, and telecommunications setups.
· Prepare and review pre-construction documents, weekly project updates with two-week look-ahead, change orders, and closeout paperwork; maintain accurate records of installations and test results.
· Collaborate with stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and clients, to develop cable plans, ensure compliance with regulations, and address on-site concerns.
· Represent the company professionally, set productivity and quality goals for crews, and strengthen customer relationships through effective communication.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including climbing, sitting, standing, walking, and driving
· When working on site, you could be required to wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats
· Must possess a valid driver's license
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
· Education: High school diploma or GED; advanced certifications highly preferred (e.g., BICSI Technician, RCDD).
· Experience: 5-7+ years in structured cabling, network installation, or low-voltage systems, with proven leadership in supervising teams and managing projects.
· Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of cabling standards, fiber optics, copper/coaxial systems, and tools; ability to read blueprints and perform site surveys.
· Skills: Strong problem-solving, verbal/written communication, and interpersonal abilities; fundamental computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office); team-oriented mindset with telecom industry awareness.
REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
· BICSI Installer 2 (Copper/Optical Fiber) or Technician (TECH)
· Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certified Premises Cabling Technician (CPCT)
· Fluke Networks Certified Cabling Test Technician (CCTT)
